Regan Chrisman-Boman is an interdisciplinary artist based out of the Fayetteville, AR and Kansas City, MO

Although printmaking is the center of my work, my skills extend into ceramics, illustration, design and education. I enjoy creating in both fine art and commercial spaces.

My practice centers around the experiences of this gendered body and mind as they cope with the feeling of the unknown. These concepts are explored formally in diaristic narratives through the lens of a distorted reality. Through this reality I tell stories of isolation, mental health, the body, and the mundane of my daily life.

I work through many personal issues in my art that cause me to frequently toggle between asking and answering, “is it just me?”. While I dive into the mundanity of my life, I invite viewers into a space where people can feel seen in moments that are made to be isolating, intimate, and secluded. Although my work is diaristic in nature, the stories I tell are not unique to myself.  Through the use of imagery inspired by comic panels, cropped imagery, garish colors, and repeating forms that create intuitive patterns, I build imagery that contrasts lightheartedness with the heavy underlying themes that emerge within the work. I push this juxtaposition by pulling inspiration from story-telling techniques from cultural references of early 2000’s media such as Lizzie McGuire and comics, telling my stories using exaggerated and humorous imagery in a similar fashion.

I create a visual system that is multifaceted, bringing together my narratives using various processes and materials. Each facet has a  different role within my stories, intersecting to create one large narrative that acts as a visual journal of my life.
